Nik's Silver Efex Pro

Recently we have had the opportunity to play around with Nik Software’s Silver Efex Pro. I have to admit I have been blown away by this product. Not only does it offer you the ability to create stunning black and white prints but with the help of “control points” gives you total control of specific parts of an image. If one shadow area is too dark for your taste you can add a control point that lightens just that area. This gives you so much more control then any other black and white software I have ever used. Photoshop does have built in black and white that you can use but Silver Efex Pro gives you nearly 3 times the choices and way more control. This opens up a whole new door to black and white photography and I can’t wait to see how it does on portraits in the near future.

The only thing I don’t like about it is that when you are trying to decide between two different presets at your starting point you can not view 2 choices of the same image side by side. Which I think is a small beef with all the bonuses you get from this software. I can’t wait to test out some of Nik Software’s other tittles in the coming weeks/months.

Old Cars and a Headless Chicken

This past Saturday was absolutely beautiful. Warm temperatures and some of the hottest cars in the Grand Valley. Every May Fruita, Colorado hold a festival remembering Mike the Headless Chick more on that story can be found
here Part of the festival includes a car show. Don’t ask me how a decapitated chicken and cars have in common because I have no clue! :)

I thought I would post some of the images on the blog. I have been playing with a new plug in from Nik Software called Silver Effects Pro. While I am still new to it I must admit I am liking the results. I can’t wait to see how it does on portraits.
